OptionsXpress (OXPS) announced some additions to its software platform today to meet the needs of active stock and options traders.

First, the company added real-time, streaming updates for options chains within web browsers. I wasn’t aware optionsXpress’ platform didn’t have this functionality, but it is definitely a plus. Options prices can change a heck of a lot faster than stock prices so real-time quotes are an absolute must.

Out of OptionsXpress

Just an FYI – I sold my long stock position in online broker optionsXpress Holdings (OXPS). I’ve been cutting back on long exposure in my portfolio as of late and I’m also concerned about a slowdown in the options business.

Plus, I’m increasingly worried about heightened levels of competition within the online brokerage industry. There are just too many companies offering great brokerage services at fair prices. It’s going to be really hard for optionsXpress to stand out in a sea full of fantastic companies like TradeKing, thinkorswim, Interactive Brokers, and so on, and so on, and so on…

Mobile Trading Boosts OptionsXpress

There’s been some debate on the usefulness of mobile trading applications, but one thing is for certain – it’s good for the online brokerage business.

OptionsXpress Reports Q3 Earnings

OptionsXpress (OXPS) delivered a pretty solid third-quarter earnings report this morning.
Revenues came in at $62.3 million, a 7% year-on-year decrease. EPS was 28 cents a share, beating the consensus analyst estimate by two cents. New new account growth was 6,600 for the quarter, with customer accounts coming in at a total of 349,900, a 13% [...]
